Rev. Dr. Franklin W. Nelson, author, educator and ordained clergyperson, has been preparing couples for marriage for more than 30 years. After using a popular inventory method during the first half of his ministry, Dr. Nelson wanted a more effective way to help couples dialogue with each other. His doctoral thesis prepared the way for the creation of an innovative communication tool called “TalkPoints” and the publication of a new book, The Greatest Is Love. This resource contains ten guided talks that couples remove from the book.
The topics include: Before We Say ‘I Do,’ Our Parents, Our Love Life, Leisure and Work, Faith, Children, Money, Doing My Part, Issues, Our Wedding Day.
Marriage Preparation Seminars offer the equivalency of 12 hours of pre-marital counseling/education, a standard set by the state of Minnesota. The three sessions include ten one-hour-long conversations using The Greatest Is Love, a personality inventory, and a practical conflict-resolution model. Seminar leaders are trained to build on the strengths in the couple’s relationship.
Couples learn new ways to communicate effectively. Couples say the talks are easy-to-use, engaging, non-threatening, comprehensive and fun. To learn more about the seminars, go to mnmarriagepreparation.com where you’ll find the latest information on upcoming locations, dates, leaders and fees. If you can't make the seminars you can buy the book through this website.
